Low-Carb Diet pages--both identical. What about turning one of these into a "dog" page? We hope 17:14, 13 Nov 2005 (UTC)

Two identical pages would indeed be confusing. I think it's a redirect of a different capitalization. Why not start some "dog" sections in this page instead? I'd write them but I don't know much about it. --steve (213.114.134.105 07:45, 8 Dec 2005 (UTC))

Diet in Dogs Edit

We hope 17:50, 19 Dec 2005 (UTC) Need to disagree regarding most dogs needing bolus injections for optimum control. The majority of canine board dogs are considered to be tightly-controlled on special diet and basal insulin. Dogs there receiving bolus insulin are the exception, not the norm. Fiber is VERY important to dogs' bg control, as it is to humans with diabetes. Feeding a prescription or OTC diet formulated with more fiber than most OTC dog foods is generally quite helpful in achieving this.

We switched to Hill's Prescription Diet W/D canned a week before going to pork lente insulin. Effects are said to be seen after feeding it for 5-7 days. Within 24 hours of switching, Lucky's symptoms were quite improved; we knew it was not the insulin, as it had done nothing prior to the food change. As a precaution, we lowered the dose of the ineffective insulin, starting the Lilly Iletin II Lente after the pharmacy order came in (a week from food change). After the food switch was the first time we saw the readings move in the right direction.

We had one case around this time where the dog was considered tightly-regulated and his diet was changed to the same W/D canned. Poor little thing promptly went hypo and his caregiver didn't understand why until posting to the board and I related our W/D story. His insulin requirements remained lower on the W/D. W/D means that insulin requirements will be less for quite a few dogs, enough to have some internists aware of the factor.

On Caninsulin/Vetsulin and Hill's W/D canned, Lucky was officially "clocked" at doing 85 8-10 hours after morning insulin, with insulin & food on a 12 hour schedule.

Again, for dogs, fiber is terribly important. Know I need to get more canine related material into wiki, but have been trying to concentrate on getting general imformation which all might use in here.

Examples Petty examples that contribute to an uncivil environment:

judgmental tone

ill-considered accusations of impropriety of one kind or another starting a comment with: "Not to make this personal, but..." calling someone a liar, or accusing him of slander or libel. Even if true, such remarks tend to aggravate rather than resolve a dispute.
