Insulin Lantus

Wendy was adopted as a 3 month old shelter kitty and developed diabetes at age 10, about a year after our first diabetic cat, Casey, died from chronic renal failure at age 19. We started with Blue Ridge PZI insulin and she did well on bid dosing, in a multi-cat household. Over time she seemed to require higher doses, so we tried a slightly different insulin and had better results. This happened several times over the past few years, and we would change again.

Wendy did better the longest on Ultralente, which we just ran out of last week and can no longer find, so now she in on Lantus and doing fine with it. Wendy has been fortunate to have only had one hypoglycemic episode since diagnosis 6.5 years ago. She will be 15 this spring and is beginning to develope cataracts but is otherwise healthy.
