Insulin | PZI Vet |
Moose my 17 year old cat was just diagnosed last week with Diabetes. This is my second cat that has had Diabetes. Booger my 14 year old passed away about 9 years ago from Insulin Shock. They did not have PZIVET yet. She was on NPH Insulin and we could not get her regulated. She passed on only after about a year after diagnosis.
Moose also has a potassium defiency which he gets a potassium supplement twice a day. He is also prone to UTI's which he gets quite frequently. I do not want to put him through what Booger went through. She did a lot of suffering trying to get her regulated. My Vet tells me that this new PZIVET is very good for cats. Has anybody had success with this? Any info. would help!!!
- Hi Lisa! Your previous problem regulating seems to me likely due to poor diet as well as ill-suited insulin. Now that Moose is on PZI that should probably fix the insulin problem, but unless he's also eating canned or raw low-carb diet and no dry at all, he'll probably continue to have UTI's and poor regulation. This isn't just my speculation, it happens over and over. For example, watch Dena change Leo's diet and see what happens to his blood sugar:

- But don't take my word for it, I suggest you join either Dr. Hodgkins' group at http://www.yourdiabeticcat.com/ , or the venerable FDMB at http://www.felinediabetes.com/phorum5/list.php?8 and introduce yourself and Moose. You'll get lots of help adjusting diet and dose. Warning -- the dosage methods used on the two forums are incompatible -- you will have to choose one or the other. I think they both work, but not together.
